I study the Word, pray, think, talk to people, then try to deliver messages that instruct and inspire. But do I have to call it “preaching”?

Ok, so if not “preaching”, maybe “messages” are better than “sermons” too …check out the definition from Answers.com

Nice definition. :O
I do like “message” better than “sermon”. But to an unchurched person, I wonder if saying “I am delivering a message on…” sounds weird or confusing. It’s better than “I am preaching on…” or “I am delivering a sermon on…”.
Hrm…

Two thoughts, first is that “unchurched” simply means “without a church”. It doesn’t imply anything about faith, personal history, belief, knowledge, individual identity, or experience with church.
And the second is, what about “This week I’m talking about…”

if it is good it doesn’t matter what you call it.
Example: “Hey that droning you did this morning was excellent!”

I have often used “this Sunday I’m talking about…”. There has been at least one occasion, though, in which someone thought I was giving a lecture or a class somewhere. Still, that’s my current preferred way of updating my status when I’m “preaching”.
And I guess if my droning is excellent, it really won’t matter what we call it. 🙂
